Agreement to Guidelines
By accepting the site's Terms of Service, you agree to follow these Content Guidelines for all User Submissions. Violations may result in your submission being hidden or deleted.
1. Violation Procedures & Corrections
- If contacted by staff regarding a violation, you will typically have 7 days to correct the issue before the submission is hidden.
- After being hidden, you will have 30 days to make the necessary corrections, after which the submission will be deleted from the archive.
- Submissions uploaded to an incorrect Subdomain or Category will be deleted immediately.
2. Proper Submission & Categorization
- All User Submissions must be uploaded to the appropriate Subdomain and Category.
- Duplicate Submissions are prohibited. This includes posting the same story in multiple subdomains or changing character names to post in a separate subdomain. Crossover categories are provided for stories involving multiple fandoms.
- Exception for Translations: A duplicate story is permitted only if it is a translation into another language, submitted with the permission of the original author.
- Rewrites: A specific procedure must be followed for posting a rewrite of an existing story. Upon completion, only the new version will remain in the archive.
3. Disclaimers & Citations
Disclaimer Requirements:
- All works must have a proper disclaimer.
- Use the provided disclaimer field (240-character limit). If your full disclaimer exceeds this limit, enter "See Full Disclaimer Below" in the field and place the full disclaimer at the top of the first chapter.
- All disclaimers must include:
- A fandom disclaimer (not character-based).
- A not-for-profit statement.
- Exception: Original Works and stories based on Public Domain material (refer to Cornell's Public Domain Guide).
Citations:
- Any non-original content included in your submission (e.g., song lyrics, quotes) must be properly cited with the original source material.
4. Plagiarism & Original Work
- Strictly Prohibited: "Read-the-Book" and "Fan-Make" submissions, which involve copying/pasting books or scripts with minimal original content, are forbidden and constitute plagiarism.
- Using Other Fan Content: If your story uses content or characters created by another fan fiction author, you must obtain and submit written permission from the original creator to tos_team@adult-fanfiction.org to prevent plagiarism accusations.
- Email Subject Line Format: [Original Author's Pen Name] - Permission for [Story Title]
5. Author's Notes & Review Interactions
- Word Limit: Due to database limitations, Author's Notes may not exceed 600 words total in any chapter.
- A chapter may not consist solely of Author's Notes.
- Review Board: Do not engage in conversations on the Review Board.
- Replying to Reviews: You may:
- Post replies within a chapter's Author's Notes (within the 600-word limit).
- Create a topic in the site's forum to discuss your story and post a link to that topic in your Author's Notes.
6. Profile & Field Usage
- Use all profile fields for their intended purposes only.
- Adhere to character limits to ensure database stability. Misuse that stresses the database is prohibited.
- Profile Bio Specifics:
- Do not post "profile vomit" (chain poems/statements/blurbs).
- Use the designated URL fields for links to your blogs or websites. Do not place these links in the bio field.
- Allowed Links: Links to non-commercial, personal sites are permissible.
- Prohibited Links: Links to revenue-generating sites (e.g., Amazon, Etsy) are considered advertising and are not allowed.
- Do not use the bio area to reply to reviews.
7. Prohibited Content & Practices
Review Demands:
- You must not demand reviews. This includes any wording that states or implies:
- No further chapters will be posted without reviews.
- Posting will be delayed without reviews.
Non-Story Content (Prohibited in Archive):
The following content is not allowed in the story archive and may only be posted in the site's forums:
- Lists
- Polls
- Story Previews (unless posted simultaneously with a full chapter)
- Challenges
- Requests
- Searches
- Placeholder stories
- Non-chapters used to bump a story's listing
- Author's Notes as standalone stories/chapters (except as a Table of Contents for TwitFic/Drabble collections)
- Roleplay requests
- Question and Answer posts
- Blogs
- Placeholder or "teaser" chapters
